Fruit Chaat

This is a slightly spicy and very refreshing fruit salad. Great for Eid parties and a lot healthier than all those cakes and sugary desserts.
  • About 12 grapes
  • 2-3 bananas
  • 2-3 plums
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pear
  • 1 orange
  • 1 mango
  • 1 pomegranate (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1-3 tsp fruit chaat masala according to taste
  • 125 ml (4½ fl oz) orange juice
Fruit Chaat Masala
  • 2 tsp mango powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp ground black salt (optional)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¾ tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp white salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried mint
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  1. Peel the bananas, orange and mango. Peel and remove the cores from the apple and pear. Cut the flesh from the mango stone. Liberate the seeds from the pomegranate. Remove the stones from the plums.
  2. Slice the fruit into small slices and wedges. Cut the grapes in half. Place the fruit in a large bowl.
  3. Mix the fruit chaat masala ingredients together in a bowl or a mortar and pestle.
  4. Add in the sugar, fruit chaat masala and orange juice. Mix well and serve.

Titli's Tips
Fruit chaat can be made with a variety of fruits, but firmer fruits are better as the fruit chaat will keep for longer. If you’ve not made this before add just one teaspoon of masala to start with and taste. You can always add more if you wish.

For an interesting variation add 125 ml of yoghurt instead of the orange juice. Delicious!
