Treacle Tart

Treacle Tart is a classic English dessert that requires no magic wands or broomsticks. Even Muggles can enjoy it!
  • 300 g (10 oz) Golden Syrup
  • 250 g (8 oz) pie pastry
  • 4 eggs, well beaten
  • 6 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Black Treacle (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Grated rind of 1 lemon
  1. Line a flan tray with the pastry and place in the ‘fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. Pour the Golden Syrup into a bowl and place the bowl in a bigger bowl of hot water for 10 minutes.
  3. Add in the Black Treacle, lemon juice and the lemon rind. Mix well.
  4. Mix in the eggs, then mix in the breadcrumbs.
  5. Pour the mixture into the flan dish and bake in the oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Serve with ice cream or sour cream to complement the flavour of the tart.

Although the addition of Black Treacle is optional, there really is no substitute for Golden Syrup. You can make a variations using molasses, corn syrup or pancake syrup but the taste just wont be the same!
